You’ve nailed your Keto meals, but you hit an unexpected bump in the road. Like your keto journey, life is full of surprises and you may find yourself on the go without your go-to meals. No need to fret though, we’ve got you covered on some simple keto friendly snacks that you can take with you on the go!
These always hit the spot when trying to satisfy my sweet tooth. Unlike your other protein bars, Quest Bars aren’t loaded up with sugar and don’t taste like cardboard! As an added bonus, hitting your protein macros is a piece of cake with 20g of protein per bar. They also pack a ton of fibre in each bar, making your… business go much smoother.
There have been some reports of these bars causing an insulin spike, whereas others have no issues whatsoever. If you’re one of those affected by the sugar alcohols, then proceed with caution, otherwise they’re a nice treat. I wouldn’t make them a staple to your diet (especially at a whopping $3 per bar), but they’re a great snack when in a pinch!
Quick tip: If you’re finding them to be too chewy, give them a quick blitz in the microwave and you have yourself a warm gooey keto-cookie!
Another protein bar with a pretty decent taste. While it may not have the special fibre loaded protein blend like Quest does, they’re an alternative low carb snack! They have a wide selection of flavors, and won’t cost an arm and a leg like the Quest Bars might.
Be careful when consuming multiple bars at once. Being sweetened with sugar alcohols, you may find yourself needing to stop by a gas station restroom if you consume one too many!
Almonds, peanuts, macadamias, and pretty much any other nuts you can think of are a simple and great snack on the go. Being loaded with tons of healthy fat, just a handful will help top off your belly before your next big meal.
Just be wary that nuts are pretty high in calories. As difficult as it may be, try to snack on only a handful at a time or you run the risk of eating an entire days’ worth of food in nuts!
Seeing how you can find a Wal-Mart or any other grocery store wherever you are, deli meats and cheese are another quick go-to snack of mine. It’s like having a mini sandwich, just minus the carby bread! Pretty much any meat or cheese will do, but always try to avoid those with extra filler that pushes the carb count up.
Another readily available snack which you can find at nearly any convenience store. It’s meat on-the-go, what’s not to love? By sucking out all of the moisture, you’re left with pure concentrated flavor of meat! Like the deli meats, try to pick one with a lower carb count, certain brands may have added sugar.
There you have my top 5, readily available, low carb friendly snacks. Why stall your progress with chips and soda when you can choose one of these tastier options!
